Coach Florendo is starting his first year as the Director of Color Guard at Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Texas, where he is focused on rebuilding the program and creating a strong foundation for future success. With a passion for student growth and program development, he is committed to creating a positive environment where performers can develop confidence, discipline, and artistic excellence.
Prior to joining Bellaire High School, Mr. Florendo serves as the Director of Color Guards at Lamar High School, where he helped lead a period of significant growth within the program. During his time there, the ensemble showed vast improvement by earning multiple Best Color Guard captions at local marching contests and making program history with the school’s junior varsity winter guard. His work helped strengthen the visual identity of the program while establishing a higher standard of performance and creating momentum for future success.
Mr. Florendo began his color guard career in the Bryan–College Station area of Texas, where he participated in both marching band and winter guard throughout all four years of high school. During that time, he earned both the “Director’s Choice Award” and “Most Dedicated Color Guard Member” honors at the BCG banquet, where he was first introduced to the world of drum corps.
In 2023, he continued pursuing his passion for the activity as an A-line weapon performer with Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps. For the 2024 season, he performed with Colts Drum & Bugle Corps as an A-line weapon member during the summer tour, where he received the “Most Improved Member” award. He plans to continue performing in drum corps until his age-out season. Beyond drum corps, Mr. Florendo has also performed in WGI with BCG and hopes to perform with a World Class indoor guard in the future.
In 2023, Mr. Florendo began his teaching career at Navarro Elementary and Henderson Elementary, where he worked with students in English, math, and music. Since 2022, he has also choreographed and assisted with design for multiple winter guard programs.
Behind the scenes, Mr. Florendo is pursuing a degree in Health Science and Dental Hygiene. He believes this educational background helps him better understand performer wellness and injury awareness while supporting student success both on and off the floor.
Mr. Florendo resides in Houston, Texas, where he continues to work as a guard designer for various programs and enjoys supporting his alma mater’s color guard and other ensembles in his free time. He is excited to begin this new chapter at Bellaire and looks forward to inspiring the next generation of performers.
